Gander Campus - Aviation Maintenance Training
College of the North Atlantic, Gander campus, is designated the Newfoundland and Labrador Center of Excellence for Aviation Maintenance Training. It has been offering training in the field of aircraft maintenance since 1963. For 48 years graduates have been recognized as some of the best prepared Aircraft Maintenance Engineer apprentices in the country.
Current program offerings meet the requirements for training in all categories of the Canadian Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License system.
The 10 month Aircraft Structural Repair Technician program offers 10 months experience credit towards the Transport Canada issued AME "S" license rating.
The two-year, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Technician program offers 21 months experience credit towards either, the AME "M" or "E" rating, issued by Transport Canada. This one of a kind program is the only one in the country to offer both the Maintenance and Avionics training in a combined format. This AMET program has also been recognized by the
Canadian Forces and graduates can receive advance standing towards the Aviation Systems Technician occupation with the Forces.
Gander campus is currently seeking European Aviation Safety Agency ( EASA) approval for a program meeting the requirements of the European Aircraft Maintenance license Category "B". The current AMET program will form the basis for this new program and therefore allow graduates to earn credit towards both the Transport Canada and EASA licenses.
Most individual courses in the Aviation Maintenance programs are one or two weeks in duration. Industry personnel are encouraged to join existing college classes and take these courses for refresher or upgrading purposes. Through the Contract Training Division, most courses can also be customized and delivered at a site of the customer's choosing.
One of the campus' primary goals is to help foster growth and respond to the needs of the Aircraft Maintenance industry, particularly in Newfoundland and Labrador. An excellent example to this is their ability to work with start-up companies and help ensure that initial training is available to the workforce.
