New media concept for A320 type training

The aircraft in the classroom

Lufthansa Technical Training (LTT) has developed a new media concept for theoretical type training courses. Following a one-year design phase, the new concept has been implemented on all A320 type training courses since the beginning of the year.

Holger Beck, Chief Operating Officer at Lufthansa Technical Training:
"The new media concept allows our course participants to learn in a situation that is very close to reality. All the maintenance-relevant systems can be accessed through a twodimensional maintenance simulator. For example, all the switching operations in the cockpit can be carried out. These are presented through interactive system overview pages. Again,
simulated error messages can be actively processed through the functioning Centralized
Fault Display System."

To promote efficient learning, course participants are provided with a notebook for the entire duration of the course. Computer-based training programs on basic and type-specific topics enable participants to brush up their knowledge over and above the direct course content, independently of location and time. Relevant maintenance books and training documentation are also available on the notebook. Individual notes can be saved and printed out.

All the aircraft systems are reproduced for training purposes on high-quality DIN A3 color printouts and are available to participants in printed form, together with system descriptions. To complete the training documentation, a panel description, a location manual and a handy, pocket size list of abbreviations are also provided.

Holger Beck:
"The extremely positive way in which participants have responded to the new media concept
for A320 type training gives us the incentive to bring our A330/A340 and Boeing 747-400
type training up to this standard as soon as possible. We are now a major step closer to our
aspiration of bringing the aircraft into the classroom."
