Rethinking training – realistic, digital, interactive.
Inspiration for hands-on virtual reality training
For several months now, Lufthansa Technical Training has been working with a specialized service provider renowned for its highly realistic implementation of the Airbus A320. In addition to strong software and VR expertise, this partner brings a deep understanding of the aviation industry’s specific requirements. At the heart of the collaboration lies one key question: what could a VR application in the MRO environment look like? Lufthansa Technical Training places particular emphasis on:
a realistic representation of maintenance tasks,
guided training sessions with interactive feedback,
and free practice modes for self-directed learning.
The goal of the project is not to replace hands-on training but to enhance it through innovative learning methods. VR training allows complex procedures to be practiced safely, scenarios to be repeated as often as needed, and experience to be gained regardless of location or aircraft availability. In doing so, Lufthansa Technical Training creates new learning spaces for trainees and active professionals in the global MRO industry. So far, there is no comparable solution on the market. Lufthansa Technical Training is therefore developing an initial demo version by the first quarter of 2026, which will first undergo internal testing and then be presented to the German Federal Aviation Office (LBA). With this project, Lufthansa Technical Training reinforces its ambition to take a pioneering role in modern training media and to develop a safe, efficient, and future-oriented training format for the aviation industry.
