Successful relocation

This is our new home

Training now takes place in a modern and inspiring environment

The scent of grilled steaks and sausages filled the air as the festively decorated canteen of the Lufthansa Aviation Training Center buzzed with smiling faces. In this warm and welcoming atmosphere, Lufthansa Technical Training (LTT) celebrated the inauguration of its new premises in building 391 at gate 24 on September 27, 2024.

Since September 2, Lufthansa Aviation Training (LAT) and LTT have been sharing the facilities at gate 24. The move from the Main Airport Center not only marks a spatial change but also heralds a new era defined by a modern workspace concept and close proximity to maintenance and flight operations.

State-of-the-art classrooms for demanding training
The LTT facilities on the second floor of building 391 offer state-of-the-art, high-performance classrooms, perfectly equipped for aviation technical training. The proximity to the operational units of Lufthansa AG and Lufthansa Technik brings clear advantages for trainees, such as shorter travel distances, continued access to their familiar parking facilities, and the availability of a Lufthansa canteen. Training sessions that require high levels of internet connectivity and graphic performance can now be conducted seamlessly. Additionally, the excellent WLAN coverage enables trainees to easily integrate their personal mobile devices alongside the installed desktop PCs during classes. "The proximity to flight operations and maintenance allows us to work more efficiently and serve our customers even better," emphasized Marc Wilken, Managing Director of Lufthansa Technical Training.

A workplace that inspires
During the inauguration event, the approximately 70 employees and their families had the opportunity to explore the new facilities and experience firsthand the benefits of their new home. Particularly impressive is the workspace concept implemented on the fourth floor, which places the needs of the employees at the center. As with other major projects such as the Digital Hangar or the LAC, an inspiring work environment was created through multiple workshops, characterized by an innovative and flexible design. The range of workspaces, from open-plan zones to retreat areas such as Think Tanks and Silent Rooms, allows employees to choose the most suitable environment for their tasks.
“We wanted to create spaces that not only meet functional requirements but also foster creativity and motivation,” explained Juergen Preute, the responsible project manager from Group Real Estate Management.

Sustainable space optimization thanks to strong collaboration
The move into the existing spaces in building 391 resulted in a significant reduction in rental areas and, consequently, cost savings. This measure is part of the portfolio consolidation and space optimization initiated at the Frankfurt site during the COVID-19 crisis.
After successfully reviewing the options to accommodate both the training operations and administrative functions of LTT in building 391, construction began in May 2024. The spaces were cleared, the office concept redesigned, and many walls were moved. Now, LTT employees can benefit from approximately 1,900 sqm of modern classrooms and office space, complete with parking facilities.
Marc Ammelung, Head of Group Real Estate Management, emphasized: “This project is a ‘win-win’ for everyone. By jointly using the LATC facilities, LAT and LTT create synergies and optimize costs. At the same time, we have significantly enhanced the quality of the working environment for LTT’s employees. The excellent cross-company collaboration was the key factor that made all of this possible.”

Synergies and collaboration
The inauguration day began with a ceremonial Welcome Ceremony, during which Jens Jaehrling, Managing Director of Lufthansa Aviation Training Germany, Marc Wilken, and Marc Ammelung symbolically opened the new training rooms with a handshake. In his speech, Jaehrling highlighted the importance of the close collaboration between Lufthansa Aviation Training and Lufthansa Technical Training: “The joint use of building 391 creates valuable synergies. These include the consolidation of training spaces at the Frankfurt site and the shared use of infrastructure and services. This partnership strengthens both parties and opens up new opportunities for the future.”

A successful conclusion
After the ceremony, guests were given guided tours of the new LTT premises as well as the Emergency and Full Flight Simulator Hall of Lufthansa Aviation Training. The day concluded with a barbecue, providing employees and their families an opportunity to come together in a relaxed atmosphere and celebrate the new location.

With this new site, Lufthansa Technical Training is well equipped for the future and looks forward to continuing its training programs in this modern and inspiring environment.
